I taped a segment for the Council on Aging’s television show. I’ll let you know when it is available to view on my FB page. Additionally, I was interviewed for Story Corp by Magi Williams. I will let you know when I get that copy as well. And I’m speaking to The University of West Florida Leisure Learning on March 8. I spoke to the GM of our local PBS Station about an interview.
Yes, the word is getting out. Who do you know that would be interested in Patient Advocacy?
I spoke to a person who has a podcast for small business owners. She was not enthusiastic about Patient Advocacy because she couldn’t see how Patient Advocacy related to business; therefore today I’m talking about the Economic Impact of Caregiving on business.
My resources for this article are Blue Cross Blue Shield and The Harvard Business Review.
American companies are facing a caregiving crisis but refuse to acknowledge it. This care crisis is only going to worsen. The intensity of care obligations are sure to increase putting more pressure on employees and employers in three ways:

- With the rising number of single-parent, two working parents, and other non-traditional.families, employees have fewer resources to turn to as they shoulder greater caregiving responsibilities.
- Both women who work outside the home and those who within the home shoulder a disproportional amount of caregiving responsibilities. This impedes their ability to participate in the workforce as traditionally defined, in their ability to remain in the workforce and their ability to maximize their level of achievement
- As more Americans enter enter the “sandwich generation” in which they provide care for both children and seniors simultaneously the physical , emotional, and financial burdens highten.
In my next newsletter, I will complete the Impact of Caregiving on Business. It’s important to me to keep these newsletters brief.
